National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) is a premier institute of India. It is located at Dona Paula, Goa, and has regional centers at Kochi, Mumbai and Visakhapatnam. It conducts research and training activities in Oceanography. Institute's major research areas include the four traditional branches of oceanography - biological, chemical, geological/geophysical, and physical - and some other areas such as marine instrumentation and archaeology.
