Competitive Examinations in Karnataka

We have discussed important competitive exams in Karnataka in the fields of Medical, Management and Engineering. These competitive Exams are held on all India basis, but there is seat preference for domicile students of Karnataka. Below are given details for eligibility, application procedure and selection procedure for respective competitive exam. These Karnataka competitive exams cover Universities in Karnataka, Medical colleges in Karnataka, Engineering colleges in Karnataka and Management colleges in Karnataka.

Management Exam in KARNATAKA

For admission to MBA Regular (Day) and Part-time (Evening) course in Management Institutions and University Departments in the State of Karnataka, candidates are required to apply separately to the Institute(s) of their choice after notification. However, eligibility admission selection procedures are similar in all the Institutions.

COMMON DETAILS are given hereunder:


Eligibility Bachelor’s degree with 50% aggregate marks ( 40/45% for SC/ST candidates). Candidates appearing in the qualifying exam are also eligible. For MBA (Evening) programmer, candidates should be employed and should have 2 years experience.

Selection Entrance test on verbal and numerical ability, date interpretation, comprehension, English language, business application & Judgements. Shortlisted candidates are called for group discussion and interview by the respective Institute/University Department.

Engineering Exam in KARNATAKA

COMMON ENTRANCE TEST (CET) is conducted for admission to BE/B Tech/B Arch courses in University, Regional,Private Aided and Unaided Engineering Colleges in the State affiliated to Visveswaraiah Technological University. The CET is not applicable to (a) Candidates applying against the quota for diploma holders both part time and full time course); (b) Government of India nominees: (c) Those nominated by neighboring States under reciprocal quota; (d) Non Resident Indians or foreigners who may be admitted by the private aided and unaided institutions.

Notification for inviting applications for CET is published in leading Kannada and English newspapers.

Allocation of Seats Free Seats All seats in Govt./University/Regional Engage Colleges and 50% seats in private engg colleges (Karnataka students) Payment Seats 50% seats in private engg colleges (Karnataka Students 85%; non-Karnataka student including NRIs 15%.

Domicile Karanataka students should have studied at least 10 years in secondary schools in the State. Exemptions: Children of Defence personnel, Central/State Govt./Undertaking employees serving in Karnataka, etc.

Reservation SC/ST, OBC, Political Sufferers, Defence Personnel, Sports, NCC, Physically handicapped, Seats or reciprocal basis from other States, NRIs, Govt. of India nominees.

Eligibility 2-yr PUC of Karnataka Board or equivalent with Phy, Chem, Maths and English securing 50% aggregate marks in PCM group (40% marks for SC/ST & Category I candidates) Candidates who have appeared in the qualifying exam are also eligible. Candidates should be physically fit.

Application Procedure Brochure with application form can be obtained from the notified branches of Canara Bank in the State on payment of Rs 350. The candidates whose home address is outside karnataka may obtain brochure and application form by post from the CET Cell, SJM Samudaya Bhavan, I Main Road, Ganghinagar, Bangalore 560 009 by sending a self addressed cloth lined envelope of size 25x30 cm and a bank draft of Rs 500 drawn in favour of Special officer, CET Cell, Bangalore.

Registering of Applications and issue of Admission Tickets Candidates whose home address is within the State of Karnataka are required to submit the applications in person at one of the Nodal Centres (listed in the brochure) and will collect the admission tickets for the entrance test from there itself. Candidates whose home address is outside Karnataka may either follow the above procedure or may send the application by Speed Post only to the CET Cell. They are required to collect the admission tickets from the CET Cell atleast 2 days before the day of examination. Test Centre for such candidates is allotted only at Bangalore.

Selection is based on merit in CET conducted in Phy, Chem and Maths at various centres in the State. The general rank list is based on CET merit and marks obtained in qualifying exam. Candidates are called in order or rank for spot allotment of branch/college according to availability and option exercised by the candidates:

Medical Exam in KARNATAKA

STATE LEVEL COMMON ENTRANCE TEST (CET) is conducted by the Common Entrance Test Cell, Government of Karnataka for admission to professional courses including MBBS/BDS in Government and private colleges in the State both for Free Seats and payment Seats. Exemption from CET: NRIs/Foreign nationals (b) Govt of India nominees (c) States nominees under reciprocal quota.

STATE LEVEL ADMISSION is made by the Directorate of Medical Education for BPharma/BSc Nursing courses (including BSc Physiotherapy) in Government and private colleges in the State.

Manipal Academy of Higher Education conduct separately entrance test for admission to MBBS/BDS/BSc Nursing courses in their constituent colleges.

Allocation of Seats Free Seats
All seats in Government colleges and 50% seats in private colleges which are open to Karnataka students. Payment Seats 50% seats in private colleges which are open to Karnataka and other State candidates.


Following satisfy the Karnataka students:

Candidates should have studies 7 yrs in Karnataka institutions between 1st Std and qualifying exam (both the Board Exams)

Exemptions:
  1. Children of defence personnel, Central Govt employees of Govt undertakings working continuously for a year in Karnataka on July 1 of year of entrance test;
  2. Children of MPs from Karnataka;
  3. Children of serving or retired employees of All India Services deputed to Karnataka and State employees serving/served outside the State;
  4. Children of Central/State Govt undertaking employees working/retired outside Karnataka State where such employees had declared a place in Karnataka as home town and has either studied in any educational institution in Karnataka and 7 year study at any time between 1st Std and qualifying exam.
  5. Children of serving/ex-defence personnel whose home address is Karnataka;
  6. Children of employees (other than Central Govt) transferable but working continuously in Karnataka for a year as on July 1 of the year of admission; such candidates should have passed the qualifying exam from an institution in Karnataka and either parent of the candidate has studied for 7 years in an educational institution in karnataka;
  7. Children of Kannadigas who have resided for 10 yrs in the State; such candidate should have passed the qualifying exam (PUC I & II) from Karnataka;
  8. Gadinadu Kannadigas Children of parents whose mother tongue is Kannada and who are at present residing in the border disputed Kannada speaking areas.
  9. Horanadu Kannadigas Children of parents whose mother tongue is Kannada and who are residing outside Karnataka.

    Reservations Govt of India nominees, Children of Defence/ex-defence personnel; On reciprocal basis; Children of political sufferers/freedom fighters. Sports, NCC, SC/ST,BC Physically handicapped, Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadigas Anglo-Indian & Parsi Community, Diploma holders.
Eligibility MBBS/BDS Age 17 yrs on 31 December of the year admission. Academic qualification 12 yrs PUC or equivalent with Eng, Phy, Chem and Biol securing 50% (40% for SC/ST) marks in PCB. BPharm 12 yr PUC or equivalent with Eng, Phy, Chem and Biol/Maths securing 50% (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) marks in Phy, Chem and Biol/Maths. DPharm holders securing 50% (40% for SC/ST) marks are also eligible. BSc Nursing PUC II (12 yrs) with optionals of Phy, Chemistry and Biology with 45% of marks (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) with English as one of the languages of study. Candidates should be medically fit.

Application Procedure MBBS/BDS Brochure with application form can be obtained from the notified branches of Canara Bank/notified colleges on cash payment of Rs. 350/500. The form from CET cell through post by sending a self addressed cloth lined envelope of 25*30 cm size and a bank draft of Rs.500 BPharm/BSc Nursing Application form can be obtained from the notified colleges on payment of Rs. 200. Completed applications should reach the notified Nodal centers/colleges by the notified date.

Selection MBBS/BDS On merit in CET and qualifying exam. The CET is conducted at various centres in Karnataka. The test is conducted in Phy, Chem and Biol and the syllabus is of PUC Std of Karnataka. The test is conducted in Phy, Chem and Biol and the syllabus is of PUC Std of Karnataka Board. Copies of question papers of previous years of CET can be obtained from the CET Cell on payment of Rs. 20/30 per set. Medium for CET English/Kannada. The rank list is notified in local dailies/colleges. BPharm/BSc Nursing Details may be obtained from the Directorate of Medical Education, A R Circle, Bangalore 560 009.
