Competitive Examinations in Maharashtra

We have discussed important competitive exams in Maharashtra in the fields of Medical, Management and Engineering. These competitive Exams are held on all India basis, but there is seat preference for domicile students of Maharashtra. Below are given details for eligibility, application procedure and selection procedure for respective competitive exam. These Maharashtra competitive exams cover Universities in Maharashtra, Medical colleges in Maharashtra, Engineering colleges in Maharashtra and Management colleges in Maharashtra.


Management Exam in MAHARASHTRA

COMMON ENTRANCE TEST (CET) is conducted by the Competent Authority so designated by the Government of Maharashtra for admission to 2-yrs full time MBA/MM Programmer in all Management Colleges/Institutions including University Departments in Maharashtra State.

Allocation of Seats Free Seats 50% Payment Seats 50% (15% seats including 5% seats for NRIs are reserved under ‘Payment Seats’ category for candidates passing their qualifying exam from Universities outside the State of Maharashtra).

Reservations SC and SC converts to Buddhism 13% ST including those living outside specified areas 7% Vimukta Jati 3% Nomadic Tribes 8% Other backward classes 19%. 1 seat per institution in ‘Free Seat’ category is reserved for wards of migrants from J & K valley and Defence and Civil Services personnel engaged in fighting against terrorist activities. NRIs 5%

Eligibility Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 with 50% aggregate marks (45% in case of candidates belonging to reserved categories). Candidates who have appeared in the qualifying exam are also eligible.

Application Procedure Application form alongwith the information brochure can be obtained in person from the management Institutions/University Departments in the State on payment of Rs. 400 (Rs. 300 for reserved categories) or as notified by bank draft in favour of Joint Director of Technical Education, Mumbai. The form can also be obtained form the Director of Technical Education, 3 Mahapalika Marg, Mumbai 400001 or from the offices of the Regional Joint Directors of Technical Education located at Amravati, Auagngabad, Mumbai, Nagpur Nasik and Pune. Completed application should reach the representatives of the competent authority at the respective offices as mentioned in the brochure by the notified date.

Selection Common Entrance test (CET) conducted at notified centres in the State comprises of multiple choice objectives. Type question in the areas of verbal ability and reading comprehension, quantitative aptitude and logical/abstract reasoning. Shortlisted candidates Rs. 400 through bank draft in favour of the Director of Technical Education, Mumbai). Merit list is prepared on the basis of aggregate marks scored by candidates in the CET, group discussion, personal interview and the marks awarded to them for their past academic record and work experience.

 

Engineering Exam in MAHARASHTRA

State Level Centralised Admission Process has been framed for admission to first year degree courses in Engineering/Technology/Architecture in Government, Government-aided (including University Departments/Institutes)and unaided (private)Engineering colleges affiliated to the University of (I) Amravati; (ii) Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada;
(iii) Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological; (iv) Mumbai; (v) Nagpur; (vi) North-Maharashtra;
(vii) Pune; (viii) Shivaji and (ix) Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada.


COMMON RULES cover admission to Free Seats and Payment Seats at the following Institutions:

All the seats in Government and Government-aided institutions (Exceptions: 5 seats for Walchand Trust and 2 seats for Daruwala Trust are reserved in Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli and 2 seats are reserved for Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Trust in Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Trust in Shri Guru Gobind Singhji College of Engineering and Technology, Nanded);
  1. 90% of seats in Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere;
  2. 53 seats of UDCT, Mumbai and 62 seats in Chemical Engineering and 42 seats in Chemical Technology of LIT , Nagpur;
  3. 50% seats except NRIs seats in un-aided minority institutions;
  4. All the seats except NRIs seats in un-aided (private) colleges other than minority institutions in the State;
  5. 10% seats of the sanctioned intake capacity in all the courses in all the institutions in the State to provide for any subsequent cancellation of admissions.

[7 seats in Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli and 2 seats in Shri Guru Gobind Singhji College of Engineering, Nanded, 10% seats of the intake capacity in all the courses in Dr Babasahed Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere; 22 seats of UDCT, Mumbai; some seats of LIT, Nagpur; 50% seats of sanctioned intake capacity in all the courses in un-aided institutions (private) approved as Minority Institutions and 5% NRIs seats are offered by the concerned institutions. Free Seats All seats in Government, Government aided colleges, UDCT, Mumbai, LIT Nagpur, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological university, Lonere and 50% seats in the unaided private engineering colleges are open to Maharashtra candidates. Maharashtra Candidates Candidates should have passed X and XII Std exam in Institutions located in Maharashtra. Exceptions: (I) Sons and daughters of persons domiciled in Maharashtra; (ii) Sons/daughters of Central Government/Undertaking employees transferred to Maharashtra; (iii) Children/Wards of Maharashtra State government/Undertaking employees who are on transfer/transferred from outside the State or on deputation to Central Government Organisations/Undertakings.

Reservations SC and SC converts to Buddhism 13% ST including those living outside Specified areas 7% Vimukta Jati 3% Nomadic Tribes 8% OBC 19% Special Backward Class 2%. Seats are also reserved for following categories of candidates: (I) Candidates whose mother-tongue is Marathi coming from Maharashtra - Karnataka disputed border areas 20 seats; (ii) NCC cadets 10 seats; (iii) Children of defence personnel 5% (iv) Physically handicapped 1%; (v) Children of citizens of citizens displaced due to terrorist activities from J & K and children of Officers and staff belonging to Military and Paramilitary forces transferred to J & K to deal with terrorist activities 1 seat per course in all colleges; (vi) Govt. of India nominees (vii) NRIs 5%.

Eligibility HSC (XII Standard) exam of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Pune or its equivalent with Eng., Phy, Chem. and Maths and with 50% marks in Phy, Chem and Maths taken together at one and the same sitting (45% for BC candidates). Candidates should be medically fit.
    -No female candidates is eligible for admission to Mining Engineering course;   candidate seeking admission to mining engineering course must be free from   colour   blindness, defective vision and vision requiring correction with   spectacles above   power of three;

    -First class diploma holders from the State Board of Technical Education are   admired to II year of the course in certain institutions;

    -Only candidates who have taken Biology as 4th optional subject at the   qualifying   exam are eligible for admission to Biomedical Engineering course.

Application Procedure Application form and prospectus can be obtained from the notified engineering colleges in the State on remittance of Rs. 350 or as notified..

Submission of Applications Candidates is required to submit the completed applications to the concerned admission authorities in the State as mentioned in the Information Brochure.

Selection On the basis of marks obtained at the qualifying exam in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Candidates applying for B Arch course are required to appear in the aptitude test. Merit list is displayed at the centers, where the candidates have submitted the completed application. Candidates listed in the merit list are required to attend the counseling session as per schedule given in the brochure.

Medical Exam in MAHARASHTRA

COMMON ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (CEE) is conducted for admission to MBBS/BDS/BPharm courses in Government/Municipal Corporation and private medical/dental/pharmacy colleges in the State affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences for Free and Payment seats. Separate notifications are issued for admission to (i) Medical/Dental Colleges; and (ii) Pharmacy Colleges.

Separate rules regulate admission to MBBS in Armed Forces Medical College, Pune; Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University; and Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Savagram (Wardha)

COMMON DETAILS are given hereunder:


Allocation of Seats Free Seats All seats in Government/Municipal colleges and 50% seats in private colleges which are open to Maharashtra candidates. Payment Seats 50% seats (including NRIs) in private medical/dental colleges which are open to Maharashtra and other States candidates.


Following satisfy the Maharashtra State candidates: Candidates who have passed SSC and HSC exams from an institution situated in the State of Maharashtra. Exceptions (i) Children of Central Government/Undertaking employees transferred to Maharashtra; (ii) Candidates who have passed SSC/HSC exams from an institution situated outside Maharashtra State and whose parents are domicile of Maharashtra State.

Reservations All India entrance 15% (MBBS/BDS) SC & ST converts to Buddhism 13% ST 7% VJ/ N T 11% OBC 19% Children of Defence Personnel 5 seats Physically Handicapped 5 (MBBS) 1 (BDS) Maharashtra-Karnataka disputed border area residents 5 seats. (Whose mother tongue is Marathi) NRI 15% in private colleges.

Eligibility Age 17 yrs on December 31 of the year of admission. Academic qualification HSC (XII standard) of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Pune or equivalent State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Pune or equivalent with Eng, Phy, Chem, Biol taken together securing 50% marks (40% for BC candidates) in Phy, Chem and Biol taken together at one and the same sitting. DPharm holders securing 60% marks are eligible for admission to II yr in BPharm Course. Candidates should be physically fit.

Application Procedure Application form and prospectus can be obtained from the notified colleges on payment of Rs. 500 (Rs. 250 for backward class candidates).

Submission of Application Candidates are required to submit the completed applications to the concerned admission authorities as mentioned in the Information Brochure.

Selection MBBS/BDS Merit in Common Entrance Examination conducted at the Headquarters of each District in Maharashtra. The CEE include one question paper each in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English consisting of 50 multiple choice questions in each subject. Syllabus for the CEE is same as for the HSC exam of HSCE Board of Maharashtra. Marks obtained by the applicant at the applicant at the CEE in the subjects of Phy, Chem and Biol form the basis of selection. Applicants who secure the requisite percentage of marks in CEE are called for interview as per the state merit. BPharm Details may be obtained form the concerned College/Directorate of Technical Education 3, Mahapalika Marg, Mumbai.

Service Bond Candidates selected against "merit" seats of private colleges or seats of Government colleges for admission are required to sign a bond to serve the State Government for a period of 2 yrs, failing which he/she is required to pay Rs. 1,00,000 for the default.
